In-Home Health Services
One of the primary concerns for older Americans is the need to be independent, coupled with the threat of the loss of health. Traditionally, the older population has been taken care of by personnel in long term care facilities. The Arkansas Medicaid program has successfully offered a satisfying alternative that allows older individuals to remain in their own homes or with relatives, if they wish.
Southwest Arkansas Development Council Personal Care Agency participates in the Arkansas Medicaid personal care program. We offer our services to Arkansas residents living in twelve counties: Calhoun, Columbia, Dallas, Hempstead, Howard, Lafayette, Little River, Miller, Nevada, Ouachita, Sevier, and Union.
Most of our clients are Medicaid eligible. However, if you do not qualify for Medicaid, you may go to the local Department of Human Services and ask about a program called “Elderchoices.” The Elderchoice program allows the individual to have a larger income and more resources than regular Medicaid clients. If you qualify for Elderchoice, the Elderchoice RN will ask you which agency you would like to provide Personal Care services. If you request Southwest Arkansas Development Council Personal Care, our RN will make a visit to your home and do an assessment to determine the specific tasks that our aide would need to provide.
If you do not qualify for either Medicaid or Elderchoice programs, we also offer private pay services. In any case, when you apply for our services, our RN will visit your home and perform an assessment to determine what services are needed. To qualify for personal care you must have seen your physician within the last 60 days. After the assessment, the RN will develop a plan of treatment, which must be approved and signed by your physician.
You may be wondering what services are provided by a Personal Care Agency. The words “Personal Care” are very descriptive of the primary tasks our aides perform for our clients. Medicaid regulations require that a client need assistance with their bath and personal grooming needs to qualify for our program. However, our aides perform other tasks, which may include: housekeeping, laundry, and shopping. The Elderchoice Program also provides respite care and adult companion services. These two programs allow for an aide to stay in the home for longer periods of time and provides vital relief for caregivers. The respite program enables clients to stay in the home of their caregiver instead of going to a long-term care facility.
