A business analyst needs to build a development plan like any other business professional. Constructing measurable goals for this service profession can be challenging, however. A productive strategy involves aligning personal goals with organizational objectives.
Focusing on Stakeholders

Measurable goals for business analyst teams should encourage seeking out innovative projects and keeping track of the number of stakeholders engaged could be a reasonable metric. Working on different types of projects exposes business analysts to new methodologies and requirements. This triggers the creative process and contributes to employee motivation that typically results in higher levels of satisfaction.
Learning New Tools
As technology evolves, new tools and techniques emerge to solve business problems. For example, many free or inexpensive project management tools exist to help a business analyst identify requirements and quantify a business case. A measurable goal for a business analyst, regardless of whether she is early in her career, looking for a lateral move or anticipating a promotion, might be to learn at least one new tool to facilitate project planning. Developing technical expertise usually improves efficiency, as well.
